Looking for somewhere to get in shape while you sit around your house all winter? There are plenty of Gyms and Fitness Centers in your area, but do not be fooled, they are not all the same.
LA Fitness: With it’s national reputation for having a swimming pool, racquetball and basketball courts, health bar, tanning, a sauna and a plentiful collection of cardio machines, it is seemingly one of the best fitness centers you can join to be in all around health. The reality of it: LA Fitness is a great gym, but not exactly in every Joe Schmo’s budget. With a $35.00 Monthly fee following a solid $120.00 enrollment, all those extras may seem to fade away into the back of your mind as that type of price just isn’t worth it.

Retro Fitness: Although there are not many fancy additions to this gym, Retro Fitness has made its way up the ranks with reasonable prices, brand new equipment and a functional design. 60+ cardio machines, personal trainers, health juice bar, and available 4.99/month tanning. Although enrollment fees seem to fluctuate constantly, processing is only $29.99 at the moment, with a $20.00 monthly fee. Also, refer a new member and get a MONTH FREE! The 80′s theme music that was initially supposed to be the gym’s forte was quickly substituted out by today’s pop hip-hop radio stations…(flock of seagulls is only good in moderation). In addition, there is a bike and cardio movie theatre where you can watch new releases while getting a workout, away from the judgement of others. The bottom line: A clean, affordable gym that gets the job plenty done.

Planet Fitness: Deeming itself the “Judgment Free Zone”, this gym is undoubtedly the thriftiest fitness center you will ever find. Currently offering a $1.00 enrollment on top of a $10.00 monthly fee, Planet seems to almost be putting itself out of business. Obviously, the people at the top are doing something right, considering their rapidly spreading franchise locations all across the United States. Bottom Line: Planet Fitness seems like a great place to exercise for next to nothing, but almost seems to go too far in the direction of quality, not quantity. If absolutely no frills is what it takes to have fees this low, then I guess we’ll be seeing more open up real soon.
