Kodak files for bankruptcy

Some of you might remember a blog I wrote a while ago on the differences between film vs video. I mentioned in that article that Kodak has been struggling to avoid bankruptcy. Well they finally filed for it. The company will probably have to lay off more employees and rethink their whole business strategy. This is a good lesson about how if you run a business you must always be looking ahead. Fuji film was able to rework its structure and keep up with the digital age better than its competitor. Will kodak adopt their structure or have they already had their “moment”……get it?

Favors

Doing a friend a favor is something that come with the territory of friendship. If your friend needs help with something and asks for your help, in most case scenario’s you would help no questions asked. So when people you barely know ask you for help and it requires a skill that you developed from school or work, this is not a time when you have to just help out of the kindness of your heart. I have time and time again helped people I don’t know with video’s and got nothing in return. Here is what you guys should do that I haven’t. Charge them a fee! Nothing outrageous of course, but your time is valuable and if your taking time out of your life to do something for someone else you should be recognized for it.

It’s almost as if you are hired to do a job when someone you don’t know asks you to do something. When you’re sink is leaking water and you call a plumber, you don’t know him, but you do know he has the skills you need to fix your sink so you pay him for his time. Why should it be any different for you if someone calls on you for help? Who cares if you’re not a “professional” yet, you’re still working ,and that’s the point I’m trying to make. There is a saying that everyone knows, that goes back before I or either of us was born, “Time is money” and that’s a fact! As you get older every second could be used to make money and any time you’re giving up your time, you better make sure you are making some money for it!

I Want YOU
To Make MONEY

Hospital Trip…

Tuesday, January 24, 2012
0 Comments so far.

Last Friday I didn’t have a blog…I was stuck in the hospital all day getting an IV. What a day it was, I was laying in the hospital thinking “Wow this is going to be boring”. Boy, was I wrong.

I get assigned to my room in the observation unit and laid down in the bed…man I forgot how comfortable these things were. So nurse #1 comes in…we make small talk and she miraculously pulls this small monitor attached to an adjustable robot arm out from the wall and places in in front of me. I thought it was hospital equipment, it ended up being the TV. I think “well this won’t be so bad after all”.

After I get situated, I watch ESPN and play on my phone. This is easy. Not until nurse #1 tries twice to hit my vein. I’m a very veiny person, so I find it odd that it always takes so many tries whenever I need a to get blood drawn. Sounds like a ME problem I guess. She gives up and gets nurse #2 to come in and do it successfully. Shortly after, I see the food menu..”Is all of this free?”..her reply: “Yes, all free.”

I ordered an omelette and a side of bacon. I enjoyed everything about it except for the fact I only received 2 pieces of bacon. TWO!? So, I ordered an entire plate of bacon. I could get used to living there. An hour later they brought me spaghetti and meatballs that I didn’t even ask for! What is this sorcery? So after a few hours nurse #3 comes in to check my blood pressure. She was cute…engage seductive Tyler. I talked to her a bit and we were enjoying each others company…until…nurse #1 came in to check my blood pressure the rest of my time there. WHY? Where is the cute nurse? i guess I can’t complain…I received a plate of free bacon. My remaining time there I just took a nap. So after 4-5 hours they finished up and I headed home. I go back in 2 weeks…MORE BACON.

Being Sick

Monday, January 23, 2012
0 Comments so far.

So yesterday I was incredibly ill and I am still a bit under the weather today. Many people I know make fun of me for how often I get sick and until now I didn’t really believe them. But as much as being sick stinks, I have a great time when I’m sick most of the time. I sit in and watch movies all day! Yesterday I saw Thor,

which I’ve seen before, and it was still awesome the second time and I saw Kung Fu Panda 2. Kung Fu Panda 2 wasn’t bad, in fact it was pretty good but, it didn’t hold a candle to the first one. So that being said I don’t know if it was worth the 5 dollars I spent to order it on demand.

I didn’t have much of an appetite yesterday, but the food I eat when I’m sick I love! I don’t know if I like it because I’m sick, but I had chicken noodle soup and toast with cream cheese and jelly all day. Pretty simple? Yes I know, but it’s the little things in life right? Well I am going to go recover by watching more movies. What do you think guys should I watch Wedding Crashers or Dodge-ball? Hmmm choices choices.

Sorry for obeying the speed limit…

Thursday, January 19, 2012
0 Comments so far.

So as you may or may not know I got a ticket for speeding a few months ago. I had to pay over $100, had points taken off my license, and now have to take a class to avoid losing my license all together. I wrote an article about here.

Well I have learned my lesson and I vow never to speed again. Which is why yesterday on the way to school I put my car on cruise control set the speed at 55 (the limit) and just sat back and relaxed. I counted at least 34 car swerving angrily around me and I saw at least 12 middle fingers. But those people are going to have to deal with it cause I sure as heck cant afford another ticket. It may be annoying but at least Im being smart.

Decision Making

Wednesday, January 18, 2012
0 Comments so far.

Alright so all of us have choices that need to be made on a daily basis. Recently the crew and I have made a video called “Good Idea, Bad Idea”. It is a real outrageous video, but with a real message behind it. The choices you make with your money should always be thought out because, the wrong decision can turn around and kick you right in the behind. In our last video we talked about applying for a Student Loan and compared it to borrowing money off a Loan Shark. If you haven’t seen the video already I’m sure you can draw a conclusion as to what happens. So remember to always think about what it is that you are doing with your money, and do your very best to make the better choices.

Oh….and here’s another video!

Mountains

Monday, January 16, 2012
0 Comments so far.

Hello everyone! Tony and I have just gotten home today from a weekend trip up the mountains with a whole group of our friends! Simple reactions I would expect from this are
“Wow lucky! I want to go up the mountains, but I don’t have the money.”
Well if any of you know me at all, you would know, neither do I, but a group rate deal always makes things much cheaper! We crammed about 16 of us in that place and every night was more fun then the night before. Not to mention we had one amazing view!
Now I don’t own a wide angle lens, so this doesn’t do the justice the scenery deserves, but you get the point.

Here’s Tony….filming everywhere he goes!

Here are some more pictures from the trip.

And this next one is one of my favorites…tell me if you can see the resemblance.

Or is it just me?

Why Catholics schools deserved to be closed from the perspective of a former catholic school student.

Thursday, January 12, 2012
0 Comments so far.

As you might have heard over 40 catholic schools were closed last week. Many students needed to be relocated to other schools and start over. A lot of high school juniors will now have to spend they’re last year in a completely different high school. As a student who went to catholic school all his life you would probably think I am upset about this?

NOPE!

These closings are way, way overdue. Heres my thoughts on the whole situation now lets go through some myths about the Catholic school education system.

MYTH: CATHOLIC IS A LOT SAFER THAN PUBLIC SCHOOL

You get this a lot from your parents growing up going to a catholic school. My parents claimed again and again that catholic school is safe and that if you were go to any school you would be taking your life in your hands. I grew up for years thinking public schools were basically prisons.

Above: MRS. Karol’s 3rd Grade Class Photo.

TRUTH: Any School is dangerous!

Seriously public schools may have more records of violence but catholic schools are just as bad. How do I know that? I got my butt kicked plenty of times. I also witnessed fights every single year of every single grade. When I went to Father Judge High School we had a bishop visit our school. We all gathered in the gym to have a big ceremony to celebrate him…I don’t know being alive or something. You see I wasn’t really paying attention cause as this big ceremony was going on I was distracted by the hardcore fight going on in the bleachers on the other side of the gym. Need more proof Catholic schools aren’t safe? Here is a picture of my old grade school Maternity BVM.

Yup that some woman who drove a car through my old second grade classroom. Feel safe yet?

MYTH: CATHOLIC SCHOOL WILL GIVE YOU A BETTER EDUCATION

Catholic schools are better at everything. The reason the tuition was so high is because you are guaranteed a quality education that will help you excel.

THANKS CATHOLIC SCHOOL!

TRUTH: keep in mind this is all my opinion but catholic school is just as bad if not worse than public school education. There is this myth that they are better and you can bet that they try to maintain that image no matter what. How do I know that? I should have been left back and should have repeated through 4th through 6th grade. I honestly cant remember passing a a single math test those years. I got grounded almost every month for constantly getting F’s on all my tests. Did I get left back? Nope. Did I get summer school? Not at all. What did I get? Passed with a C and sent to the next grade. Catholic school likes to maintain there better education image. As long as you weren’t a discipline problem they would just pass you cause heaven forbid people found out a kid failed at catholic school! That could effect enrollment and tuition!

I recently talked to someone who took her kids out of catholic school and placed them into public school. “I found out my kids were actually behind when compared to the other people in their grades” said the woman.

Also I was told that public school kids were behind and not as smart as us. You should have seen how embarrassed I was to find out the people who went to some of the “worst” public schools could read do math and spell better than me. And they didn’t have to wear uniforms…I was jealous.

MYTH ALL PEOPLE WHO GO TO CATHOLIC SCHOOL GROW UP TO BE WELL ROUNDED INDIVIDUALS.

Im just gonna have Jimmy Dore speak for me.

TRUTH Becoming a well rounded individual has more to do then what your taught in school.

Again people have this idea that sending your kids to catholics school will make them saints and in the end a lot of people graduate and resent what they were taught and some people rebel heavily. I’ve met kinder and more religious people from public school.

I interviewed a fellow catholic school graduate. Lets call her Kelly Frag. She said this about her time in Catholic School: “they weren’t allowed to beat us physically like the old days so they broke us down emotionally and we would go home and beat ourselves so in way they were still getting there physical abuse in.

No don’t get me wrong I don’t hate catholic school. I had some good times in it and had some great teacher. Im not making public school out to be amazing either hell there’s whole movies on how that system is flawed The point I am trying to make is we are in a recession a lot of people are going through hard times and catholic school isn’t a reasonable option. It costs way too much and people are realizing its not that much better than the public school system. there was a time for catholic school but now is not it so that is why I am okay with them closing. Its easier to close the schools and send them elsewhere then it is to charge the parents more or cut back on materials used for learning.
