About Matt : I’m a junior at Lower Moreland High School. I’ve always been interested in making videos, for school and for fun. Whenever is possible for a school project I try and do a video because that is where I can really show my creativity and craziness. I’m also on the computer ALL the time on facebook, with making videos, and I basically live on the computer. I’m also an extremely outgoing person and I love to meet new people. I am a people person; I love being a part of a team and working with other people. I’m also a part of a youth group; BBYO. This has really taught me how to lead effectively while also taking time to hear others views on a topic. I tend to always keep a promise once I make it, so I’m definitely a very reliable person.
Matt’s Blog : What would you say is the most valuable piece of technology that we have now that we didn’t have 20-30 years ago, that really changes how the world works? Let’s first go with the TV, a lot of people would say this is the most important piece of technology that we have. Yes, TV has definitely changed A LOT from what it was just 10 shorts years ago. Yes, you can now watch over 250+ channels that include HD channels, “on demand”, and DVR/live TV including pausing, and forwarding/rewinding. I would not say this is the most important piece of technology we have. Others would say the cell phone is the most important piece of technology that we have, it has furthered so much in the last 10-15 years. I remember my dad saying that cell phones back when he was a teen were huge phones (the size of a large lunch box) with an extremely long antenna that had to be pulled up. We have come so far from that now most phones eit her have no antenna or a very small antenna, and a majority of phones are basically mini computers that fit in your pocket. Examples are I phones, Blackberry’s, HTP phones and the Androids. Again they have really improved, but cell phones are not the most important piece of technology we have now. The most important piece of technology would have to be…Computers/the Internet; computers have really changed and made the way we live life 100% different. We now have and use computers for about everything there is in life. We use them in cars, and businesses and almost anything we use these days. Years ago we had computers that would take up the whole space of a room to use. Now our computers are so small they weigh under a pound and can be placed on top of our laps. Also part of computers are the internet, the internet has changed so much now that most human contact is made through the internet. We have sites like Ichat, Facebook, Oovoo, Skype, Aim, Myspace, etc… We are s o influenced by the internet most of our research done for ! school/ daily answers in life are looked up onto the internet. 35+ years ago when my parents were in school/college if they wanted to find an answer to a question they would have to look it up in books, textbooks, on the TV or even ask their parents if they knew the answer. Teens/everyone these days just go right to the internet to a search engine like Google or Yahoo! or other search engines. That is why the computer/internet are the most important pieces of technology these days, if we never had it everyone’s lives would be so different from how they are today!

Spending or Saving?

Wednesday, February 24, 2010

When you’re thinking about what to do with your money, there are often two options: spend or save. When we talk about a larger scale, like maybe a government, the decision is a little more complicated. If there’s anything we can learn within our own country, it’s that no matter what government money is spent on, someone isn’t happy. This is the current issue facing the Canadian government in reference to the Olympic games. So how much money did Canada spend on the Olympics? Well no one is completely sure, but most estimate that it is somewhere around $5 BILLION DOLLARS. I don’t know how you feel, but to me that sounds like an awful lot of money. We know that the opening ceremonies were priced at about $40 million. Think for a second about how much money that is. That’s a LOT more money then you’ll make while working for Project Flipside (sorry to disappoint you).

You may wonder, like I did, how most Canadians felt about this large expense. According to a recent survey, 48% percent of Canadians felt like their country spent too much on these games. I guess the rest of the people believe that having the games in Canada will boost tourist revenue in Canada, not to mention the country will make a significant amount of money while the games are going on. Still, I would argue that there are better uses of cash. I’ve never had to decide what to do with $5 billion before, but I would imagine if I had the opportunity, you’d see a lot of it saved and invested, and a lot of it used to support businesses within my country, in an attempt to improve our economic situation. I think there are a number of things the money could be used for, and evidently so does the gentleman who made the video on this web page. Check it out, it’s short and silly. And always remember to save your money!

Our third applicant is Allison from Warminster, PA!

About Allison : I’m a senior at William Tennent High School and I will be attending Delaware Valley College in the fall. I can do just about anything, as long as I set my mind to it and I am a very dependable person. I love working on the computer so making videos, working in photoshop and checking my facebook are some of the best things about what I do daily. I also like to take charge of situations, so if there is ever a problem I want to be the person that everyone comes to for help.
Allison’s Blog : Who doesn’t like using Facebook? Honestly I can’t understand who would say that they don’t like using Facebook. For me it’s a way to keep in touch with my friends, as well as sharing any of my pictures and videos with all of my family. Without Facebook I would mostly lose touch with most of my friends and family because of everything that I do during the week. Sometimes you can’t always get together with everyone and it is very convenient when they are only a click away. Other members of my family use Facebook for only games such as Farmville and Bejeweled, even my 8 year old niece can use facebook so it’s not too technically advanced. Don’t know what to share on facebook? Well you can let everyone know what you are up to during your busy week, or you can upload pictures from the huge snowstorm that swept through your neighborhood. You can even ask for more neighbors for your café world. No matte r what you post your family and friends will be thrilled to hear from you! Tell us if you use Facebook and what you share to all of your friends!

Some of you may know that Rhett and Link are two awesome video makers that recently filmed a commercial for Bucks First Federal Credit Union. If you haven’t seen the video yet, you can see it here on Projectflipside.com. These guys are incredibly talented, and make hilarious videos all the time, even better than the ones we make. If you’re looking for some inspiration for your video application, check out some of their videos. They have hundreds of them, and something is bound to give you an idea. I put one of my favorites here in the post, just to give you a little taste of their talent. If you enjoy making videos, and hope someday to get thousands of hits on youtube, these are the guys you should aspire to be! Check this out! Then check out more of their stuff on youtube, and go make your video!

Our Second Applicant for the Crew!

Our second applicant is Dan from Bensalem, PA!

About Dan : I am a great man to talk too. I am not shy and I have a loving personality. I have confidence in myself and I can easily talk in front of a large group of people. I have been told at my high school that I am a “big deal,” mostly because I am large myself. Also, I am a superhero at night. I am called “The Green Dantern.”
Dan’s Blog : Ska music! You hear it a lot, but many people don’t know what Ska music is. Well, it’s like a fast paced reggae song. But, there have been many generations of this. One is a classic, very reggae rooted jam to it whereas Two-Tone, the second version which started out in the UK, has more of a heavier sound to it and a little more upbeat. One of the most commonly known versions of Ska is the Third-Wave which includes many well known bands such as Reel Big Fish, Big D and the Kids Table, The Aquabats, and many more. This wave of Ska music has more of a pop-punk feel to it. So, there’s something everyone can enjoy. Every ten years or so starts a new wave of Ska music and it will last about ten years. So, right now we are due for one. In fact, Philadelphia is slowly having a Ska Revival with many local bands coming back to the sweet and catchy rhythms of Ska music. Ruder than You, a band that is older than I am, are still together and playing great Ska music. These Philadelphia locals have combined Ska with punk, old school reggae, even hip-hop beats can be found in many of their songs. Other bands from the area that are helping start the Ska Revolution are On Display, Case of Mondays, and Tsunami Rising. So this blog is to grab everyone’s attention towards this new wave of music coming up. Ska was the original dance music and right now since the genre is so underground, you’ll more than likely meet all of the band members when you go see them in concert. The tickets are cheap, the shows are always great, the people at the shows all have great etiquette, and I have yet to meet a stuck up Ska band member. Don’t miss out on this great revival of music! One Love, One Heart~ Dan Sham~
