After years of using the internet, I’ve learned about all the different ways you can be scammed over the internet. Hopefully, with some simple tips you’ll be able to keep your credit card numbers, as well as identity safe.
First, make sure that your passwords are nothing obvious, as well as different for all of your personal information bearing websites. Never keep a pin number for more than a couple months, otherwise patterns will be visible to those with access to certain resources. Just this month, I received 3 charges on my online bank account, which I immediately was unaware of the source. Luckily, I check my bank account regularly, because I may have been out that 75 dollars had I waited a few weeks to file a claim. Regardless, it’s no fun needing to get 2 new temporary credit cards to add to my already George Costanza sized wallet. Take that as a lesson to always closely monitor your bank account.
Your last lesson is going to branch out to eBay. Although it is reasonably safe, people can still figure out ways to rip you off via the billion dollar auction website. Make sure than any eBay emails are also coming through the message board on the website itself…and remember, if somebody is telling you that they will ship an ’06 Infinite G35 to your house from Alaska for a flat rate of $3200.00, it’s probably somebody trying to rip you off.
BELIEVE IT OR NOT, that is actually my friend’s dilemma right now, and he is unsure that it’s really a scam…will somebody please tell him.
