About Nicole : One of the sad parts about myself is that, even though I am only sixteen years old, I always feel like I should of already accomplished more in my life. It usually takes more then one person to open up my eyes on everything I have succeeded in doing, which many people find to be an impressive list. To begin with I am an sophomore and honor student at Cardinal O’hara High School. My school agenda is filled with classes in the AP and Track 1 range. During extra hours after school I am apart of my school marching and concert band, which I have been doing for seven years. On top of those activities I am also a ballet, pointe, tap, jazz, modern, and lyrical dancer. I have been apart of Parkside Academy for Music and Dance for twelve years, Parkside Performing Arts Company for six years, and the Parkside Competition Team for the last four. I usually spend about 11 hours a week at the studio which includes an Elementery 3 class that I student teach as apart of my academy’s three year program. Ever since 5th grade I have also been a member of the People to People World Leadership Program which has allowed me to travel the U.S. along with European countries such as England, France, and Belgium. I have also traveled to Bermuda and Grand Caymon, Mexico with my Dance company as guest dancers on numberous cruise ships. My dream, however, is to apply and be accepted to Georgetown University in Washington D.C to major in International Affairs and minor in either the Perfoming Arts or Music Entertainment Production.

Nicole’s Blog : Turn on the television, open a newspaper, go on internet news sites, and sit numb. “Things like that only happen to other people. “ “Nothing interesting like that ever happens around here.” “There must have been something wrong with those people. No mentally stable person would ever get themselves caught in a situation like that.” I’ve said it, you said it, and we will forever think these ridiculous thoughts until some act of fate forces us to see otherwise. I don’t know about other teenagers in the area, but my parents are persistant in watching at least one of the many news channels in the late evening. Even as a small child I remember hearing the names of places that, even though are relatively close, I never have heard of. I grew out of that stage, but even now that I can make a mental map of towns in my mind, I will never know the person whose name made that town so well known in a fifteen minute lime light. The recent topic of discussion going on through many? Suicide. I recall every statistic and story my freshmen health teacher had said on this topic and had listened carefully to every students opinion in my class. Thankfully most were mature enough to know how serious of a matter it is and how vibrantly it lives with us, whether we care to acknowledge it or not. And just like I’ll remember that specific class, I’ll also never forget the day of Feburary 25th. Because that I now go to a school that is out of my district, staying in touch with my local high school’s news is difficult. I’ve known the students of Norwood, Glenolden, Prospect Park, and Tinicum all of my life, but sadly when people grow older they have to grow apart. On that Thursday was of course a school day even though there was snowflakes arriving early for a supposed winter storm. I had returned home at my regular time that day thinking it was an afternoon like the rest, when my mom handed me the phone in tears. The superintendant of the district had left a solemn message for the mourners of the two sophomore students who were just killed. Um, what? Sophomore, district, killed? Have you ever experienced the terror of a moment when your heart stops? Only one real thing can freely flow from your mind. And in mine? Who? It took at least twenty minutes to get a sufficient answer on Facebook other then the many status updates of R.I.P. A girl I knew for years was suddenly ripped from my life. Someone who was an old friend, but like I stated before, had drifted apart. I will never be able to know who this amazing person would of grown into and there are no fresh memories that I could hold on to. How could I? Accidents and horrors occur everyday, but that’s not the thing that scares me. It’s the fact that there are grudges I’m still holding onto and people that I still have to make peace with who are still thankfully with us on this Earth. But what if another horror happens? If I have learned one important thing with the coming of this 2010 year is that small and pety arguments aren’t worth anything. A life is something precious you have to cherish and suicide is certainly no answer. I don’t ever want to have to turn on a television, flick open a newspaper at Wawa or Dunkin Donuts, or even simply go online to realize I have forever lost my chance to make things right with somebody or to remind them how much people do care. And if there is one goal I am determined to finish before I graduate is that I need to get into contact again, at least once, with every soul who I’m lucky to cherish a memory with. Good or bad, for better or worse, there is always a chance to set a conscious and heart right.

About Kelsey : I am 16 years old. I am in 11th grade at Pennsbury High School. Go Falcons! I am planning on attending college for a career in Speech Pathology, a goal that I have a deep desire to fulfill. I try to keep myself busy through my schoolwork, dancing, job, and friends and family. I have been dancing for 13 years and I’m on the competition team at my dance studio. I’m also the parliamentarian of the FCCLA-Family Career and Community Leaders of America, being in charge of coordinating all meetings, as well as planning events. I work at CiCi’s Pizza Buffet and enjoy the job because I have the opportunity to meet so many new people, something I’ve always been comfortable with. Although I’m no master in video editing software, I know that I have the quick learning mentality, along with a broad spectrum of skills to guarantee my success. I have an affinity for public speaking, (or so I’ve been told)… I know how to get people’s attention and help others understand any topic at hand. Overall, I enjoy being around people. I am fun, outgoing, and very easy to get along with. I feel my personality and my go-getting attitude will be perfect for Project Flipside.

Kelsey’s Blog : Fast Food “Phony” Why is it that Fast food restaurants always have commercials or advertisements that showcase the complete opposite of the truth? This has always bugged me. The commercial burgers are always perfectly cooked and all the toppings and condiments are put on just right. Or how about the chicken…How perfectly crispy it is? I mean seriously…come on! Reality Check! You pull up to the drive through window, and they give you what you ordered. Suddenly you’re opening your bag to find your food and what do you see? A pile of mush! What happened to that appetizing burger? I find this very humorous. Most people know that the advertisements for these places are skewed, but still continue to get the food anyways. On that note, there must be some element of addiction to it…because I know I sure do it. After all, for two to three dollars, that pile of mush tastes pretty good! So am I crazy or what??

About Chase : So before I started to write a long and complicated intro, I sat down and debated on what to write. Do I tell you who I am? What I stand for? Maybe I tell you about my love life, or lack-there-of. I wasn’t sure what to tell you, or where to start. In the mist of all this contemplation the thought occurred to me, “why do I need to explain my previous escapades in life?” Do you care that I’m a waiter at a local diner, or that I graduated from Bensalem High School ‘09? I mean honestly, if you are reading this, we can only assume that you are hopelessly mired in the life of Chase. Whether you are reading this out of boredom or of interest, the thoughts arise, are you a close personal friend? A family member? A secret crush, or just a person interested in my life? Don’t be ashamed. It happens. Maybe you’re obsessed with my love life. Who’s the current girlfriend? Where l plan to attend college? Perhaps, and this is a pretty long shot, but perhaps you have existential dreams about me and want to look into the dreams that I have been having and check to see if you were mentioned in mine. Whatever the reason, you are here. And in the end, that’s all that counts. So pull up a chair (If you aren’t sitting in one already), and read on as my life unfolds through this handy checklist I have conveniently laid out for your viewing pleasures.

Chase’s Blog : In this day and age it’s very difficult to come up with a compelling story that will grab the attention of children, adults, and Oprah’s Book Club. When was the last time you sat down and read a good book? Whether it was fantasy, horror, romance, or even a picture book, it’s very likely that some studio has tried to turn it into the next major motion picture. However, these big-screen projects come with a potential disappointment. If you were to ask any reader who has had the pleasure of experiencing their favorite novel in IMAX or on Blu-Ray you’ll discover that the most common response will usually be, “The book was better.” But what gears the demographic to be so biased to the movies in which hundreds of people have worked on solely for the audience’s entertainment? The answer, my friends, is imagination. When reading a book, we have the ability to become so engrossed in the story line that our mind’ s eye can virtually create a picture perfect world that no special effects can even compare to. The feelings that we get become so dramatically intense and realistic that not even the best editing equipment could even bear a striking resemblance to what we have stashed away in our mental filing cabinet. So what’s stopping people from lying around in bed and reading “a good book” on a slow “blustery day”, as Pooh Bear used to say, instead of renting a movie? The answer is time. In reality it takes much longer for an individual to sit down and escape into an alternate reality then it does to pop a movie into your VCR or whatever crazy piece of technology you kids are using nowadays. With time being a major factor (as well as commitment), we are naturally drawn to the easy way out. It’s no doubt that this will influence our decision to make a minor commitment of a couple hours vs. the possibility of several days.

There are plenty of things you can do last minute. You can plan a vacation last minute, you can buy your sister a birthday present last minute, you can even plan an anniversary surprise last minute. The point is, there are many things you can do last minute, and they will turn out just fine. That isn’t always the case with project flipside applications. So why not work ahead? Do it tonight! or at least start it. If you don’t, you may end up making a video that looks something like this one…..
