So I just recently submitted an application to try to become the next Credit Union Youth Ambassador of Pennsylvania. What this means is that if I win, I’ll represent our entire state on behalf of Gen Y. It won’t be easy though…First, I need to deliver a speech in early November, most likely up against only a few people. After this, I’ll move onto the state competition. This will be a heated competition, absolutely not coming with ease…but there’s more to a speech than accurate content.
So lets talk about funny…it’s important to know how to be it, but only in the right kind of way. If you walk up on stage and give the Jerry Seinfeld routine, you’ll most likely not be taken seriously. On the same note, nobody wants to hear a monotonous 2:00 minutes of blah blah blah. SOOOO, what’s the plan? The smartest thing to do is make the audience realize that you’re being real, not professionally reading from a paper with size 23 font so you can read it verbatim. Start with something witty, but funny. Then proceed into the speech while staying on the level of the audience, not trying to impress them with words that take twice as long to understand as they do to say. It’s gonna be tough preparing this speech, but wish me luck.
Randy Pausch was an AMAZING inspirational speaker. I don’t ask that you watch the entire thing, but I’m positive that his speech will intrigue you.
