About Shane : I’m 19 years old. I have a 3.8 GPA at Bucks County Community College and am very dedicate to my school work. I’m a aspiring film maker and I hope to someday be working in Hollywood. I enjoy working both behind and in-front of the camera. I edit with final cut pro. I love meeting new people. I’m a very hard worker; my boss at Cold Stone Creamery tells me I’m his best worker. I play drums and am learning the guitar. I would consider myself a very well rounded person, I guess its part of being a Libra. I love to laugh and have fun, I enjoy a good challenge, and I’m excited to join project flipside.
Shane’s Blog : He is best known for concept of the “hierarchy of needs.” It is most commonly displayed as a pyramid, containing 5 levels. From bottom to top, the needs are physical, security, social, ego, and self-actualization. According to Maslow’s theory, you advance in that order and do not long for a higher need until you’ve satisfied the lower needs. The lower needs are animalistic needs per say, such as the needs for food, water, rest, safety and shelter.. As you move up we come to the social need, need to be loved and included with others. Once the social need is developed you move on to the need for ego and self-esteem. After this is achieved you reach self-actualization. In this final stage your basic needs are all satisfied and you long to grow and develop. This is all according to Maslow’s theory. So how accurate is this theory? I’m not so certain of it being a hierarchy at all times. I believe that the social and ego need are intertwined. I don’t think you’re social need is fully satisfied until you have self esteem, and I don’t think you’re self esteem can become fully satisfied without being socially accepted. I do agree with Maslow that the physical need in almost as circumstances needs to be satisfied before you long for anything else. If you’re starving and thirsty, and haven’t slept for 2 days, I don’t think you’re going to be worrying about what people think of you. Overall I think Maslow’s “hierarchy of needs” does a pretty good (yet not perfect) job at explaining how human beings operate in terms of their desires. What’s your opinion?
